Children's Education Ministry
The Children's Ministry of First Presbyterian Church is committed to nurturing children in the Christian faith, with the assurance of God's love. It is our prayer that children may come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior through the teaching of God's Word and the experience of God's presence as they participate as members of our church family.
Sunday School
Our church offers a structured Sunday School program for children ages two through High School during the regular 9:15 a.m. Sunday School Hour. Depending on our numbers, there is usually a separate class for each grade or age. The curriculum for all classes is Bible-based, teacher-friendly, and age-appropriate. Children in Grades 1-6 participate in an exciting Rotation Sunday School Method, where children focus on a single Bible Story for several weeks, using a variety of lab-style workshops which include Video, Drama, Crafts, Bible Skills and Games and Music. Students rotate by grade each week through the designated workshops.
Extended Session
Extended Session is held on Sunday mornings during the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service. Children from age three through kindergarten leave the sanctuary following the Children's Sermon for age-appropriate instruction during the rest of the worship hour. Parents of the children in our church lead this function on a rotating basis. All children are encouraged to worship with their families and to learn about ways in which their worship will glorify and honor God.
Church Nursery
A well-staffed and well-maintained church nursery is available for children aged two and under at all church events. Our nursery workers are experienced staff members and professionals who provide nurturing care for your child. For on site programs, pagers are available for parents.
First Presbyterian Church Day School Our church offers a Preschool Program for children ages two, three and four during the regular school year. The Preschool, which has been in operation for nearly fifty years, offers a warm, accepting Christian atmosphere in which a child can grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Classes are limited in size, and staffed by experienced and qualified teachers.
WWJD (Wednesdays with Jesus' Disciples)
Our most fruitful education and nurture program, WWJD is the flagship program for teaching our children the joy of a faith in and following of Jesus Christ. A two-semester program, WWJD is exciting, and offers nurture and education to nearly 100 children each weekday, providing a happy experience for the children.
Vacation Bible School
A weeklong Vacation Bible School is offered each year for children age three through fifth grade. This is an exciting week of Bible Learning activities. The Vacation Bible School is directed by a church volunteer, and is staffed by adults within the church, with assistance of Youth Fellowship volunteers. A grand finale to V.B.S. week is planned for the entire family.
Summer Activities
Every summer, our church offers a variety of activities for children in all age groups. These activities are planned to promote fellowship and Christian learning. They are centered on a chosen theme for the summer, and include field trips, crafts, service projects, and fun experiences, and most recently a Summer Day Camp.
